We Now Offer NZ-Wide House Moves!

What a Fair Moving Quote Covers
in the Bay of Plenty

You have three quotes for the same move and they are hundreds of dollars apart. That usually means they are not quoting the same job. A fair moving quote in the Bay of Plenty spells out the crew, the truck, the hours and the travel, so you can compare like with like. Here is what ours includes and what to look for in anyone else's.

What is actually in a Lettuce Know quote

Crew size and who is coming. Truck size, and every one of ours carries at least a one-tonne tail lift. Estimated hours for loading, travel and unloading. Travel time between our base and your two addresses. Packing, if you have asked for it. Any single big items that need special handling, like a spa pool or a piano. If it is in the quote, it is in the price.

What changes the price up or down

Access is the big one. A long driveway, stairs, a lift, or a Mount Maunganui street with nowhere to park adds time. Distance matters: Rotorua to Tauranga is a different job from Rotorua to Whakatāne. Packing adds hours but saves you days. Heavy or awkward items add crew. The number of rooms matters less than people think; a tidy four-bedroom with boxes packed and labelled can be quicker than a cluttered two-bedroom.

Why we do not pad quotes

Some movers quote a "safe" number and keep the difference. We do not. Ned Fairlie helped get everything ready and the job took less time than expected, so James charged him less than the quote. In Ned's words: "James is an easy going no fuss operator. He turned up on time and even charged less than his quoted." If the job is quicker, the invoice reflects it. If it runs longer because of something we did not know about, we tell you on the day, not on the bill.

What to send us for an accurate quote

  • The two addresses and what the access is like at each (driveway, stairs, lift, parking).

  • Number of bedrooms and a rough idea of how full the house is.

  • Anything heavy or awkward: spa pool, piano, big fridge, safe, garden shed.

  • Whether you want packing, and how much.

  • The date, and whether it is flexible.

Photos or a quick video walk-through of the house help more than anything else.

What to ask any mover before you book

  • Is travel time included, and from where?

  • What happens if the job takes longer than quoted?

  • What size truck, and does it have a tail lift?

  • Are the crew employees or casual labour?

  • Are you insured for goods in transit?

FAQs

Is travel time extra?

It is included in our quote and itemised, so you can see it. Some movers leave it out of the headline number and add it on the day. Ask.

What happens if the move takes longer than expected?

If it is because of something we should have planned for, that is on us. If the house turns out to be much fuller than described, or access is not what we were told, we tell you on the day before the extra time is spent. There are no surprises on the invoice.

Do you charge more for weekends or early starts?

Ask when you book and we will tell you straight. Early starts at the Mount are often the smart move because they avoid the parking squeeze, and we plan them into the quote rather than charging extra on the day.

Can I get a fixed price rather than an hourly estimate?

Yes, for moves where we can see the job clearly (photos, access details, a firm date). A fixed price only works when the quote is based on the real job, which is why we ask for so much detail up front.

Do you quote over the phone?

For small moves, yes. For a full house we would rather see photos or a quick video walk-through first, because that is how the quote ends up right. Jason or James will call you back the same day.

“Have used Lettuce Know several times now to move some building materials for me. Other companies have said yeah nah. Not this one. Goes above and beyond and a great bunch of lads that get stuck into the Mahi!!”
